TDM Events is contracted to host the annual Canterbury A&P Show, the largest A&P Show in the country and the largest trade exhibition in the South Island. From humble beginnings in gorse paddocks, the annual Canterbury A&P Show has grown to become part of the fabric of the region, greeted with excitement and anticipation by rural communities throughout the country and by Canterbury’s town and city dwellers.
Attracting 100,000 visitors, 600 trade exhibitors and 7,000 livestock and feature competition entries, the Canterbury A&P Show is the premier event in New Zealand’s agricultural calendar.
TDM Events has been working with the Canterbury A&P Association since 2001, providing event management, sponsorship procurement, marketing/communications and administration for the annual community event.
The partnership has resulted in considerable growth for the three day event which generates close to $17 million in total direct spending plus a further $26 million in estimated trade exhibitor revenue annually.
Visitors from outside of Christchurch make up more than 53 percent of the total direct spending generated from the event. The Canterbury A&P Show is also responsible for bringing nearly 8,700 tourists to Christchurch annually, from other parts of New Zealand, generating more than 27,500 bed nights in the region and contributing just over $4.46 million in direct expenditure.
The Canterbury A&P Show is a key component of New Zealand Cup & Show Week, the umbrella brand created to coordinate events during New Zealand’s most vibrant and exciting spring festival. The national festival, coordinated by Christchurch City Council, brings significant economic benefits to Christchurch and reinforces local pride in the community.
